Web Site Updated

Posted in

As a result of our hosting provider updating their platforms, it has been necessary to also update our site as the previous one became broken.

At present, the new site mostly works, but the appearance still has some problems, which we are trying to understand and resolve. Bear with us while we try and sort it out. This may mean the site goes up and down a few times while it is worked on.

S.C.A.A. Inter-Club Tournament 2009 - Wells win the Team Trophy Again (well almost)

Posted in

This year we had only three club members taking part and one junior, as Danny had to withdraw at the last minute for work reasons. Again the tournament was hosted by Bowmen of Danesfield, who always seem to put on an excellent day. Ernie was rather nervous for an old hand, as he hadn't done any competitive shoots for well over three years, possibly longer. Our ringer this year was Lynne Evans, former Olympic archer (Munich 1972), also chairman of the GNAS, club President and member for many years.

This year was very well attended, with almost all the Somerset clubs represented and around 90 archers shooting. Again it was a very friendly shoot, with many first timers taking part. On my target was a gentleman who had only been in the sport for three months. He still won a prize though, for worst white.

On 7th September a eight club members took part in the Somerset County Archery Association Inter-Club Tournament at Danesfield School, Williton. This was a FITA900 round (3 x 2 ½ dozen) shot at a variety of distances to suit senior through to the younger juniors.

Beginners Courses

Posted in

The club held a Beginners course through January and February this year, and it was very successful. It was attended by nine people, which included two juniors. Of those, five have subsequently joined the club.

We continue to receive enquiries regarding a beginners course, but at present we are unlikely to run another before the autumn, as we prefer to do them when we return to indoor shooting. In the mean time there are a number of other Somerset clubs that may be running courses, or have continuous beginners programmes which you may wish to try.

Archery Beginners Course

Posted in

We have had several enquiries recently regarding the six lesson beginners archery course. Unfortunately, our usual coach is unavailable at the present time, and we are uncertain as to when we will next be able to run the course. As it is a requirement to have a registered coach present we cannot therefore arrange any courses at present.

When the situation is resolved, or we get another member qualified as a coach, we cannot run the course, which is a shame. Please keep getting in touch if you are local as we will get back to you once we can run the course again.

The results of this winters postal have recently been released, and it is with satisfaction that we see we managed to get a third place this year. Well done to all who took part.

Farrington Clout Shoot

With the sun shining on a rather pleasant evening (if a bit windy to start with) we gathered at the Farrington Golf and Country Club for the clout shoot.

Coastal Archers Single One Way Clout

Some 13 club members gathered at the Red Road Playing Fields in Berrow, the home of the Coastal Archers. We joined 11 members of other clubs from the area, so out numbered rather well. Luckily the weather was pretty glorious for the whole evening, after having had a few days of rain showers.

Puriton 2004

This saw the club members off to take part in a competition held at Puriton. For some members it was their first contest, but still they came away with the spoils.
